Scenes From the Home Series 2022 - Ongoing
Scenes From the Home is a series of paintings about traditions brought from Ethiopia to the new world, America. It is about the intersection of Ethiopian culture with American culture. I capture scenes around my family home in America, enriched by both cultures. From the walls of every room and even to the top of the dining room table, ornaments fill the space leaving my family feeling nostalgic and reminding us of our past lives. Each of the paintings displays a silent, intimate moment between the objects and their surroundings. Scenes From the Home aims to celebrate and honor Ethiopian culture and tradition, their survival, and continued growth in the new world.
